Technology is a great enemy beast, which is constantly fighting against your personal privacy. Nowadays mobile phones are getting better and better, stronger and stronger day by day. A great majority of people is using smart-phones for lots of reasons. Their business, their personal organization, their finances management and so on and so forth. Hence, smart-phones are holding so much critical information about you, your family, your life.
Mobile devices maintain information such as:
- Short messages
- Personal interests/hobbies
- Activity history (e.g web surfing, apps installed)
and many many other kind of information. Unfortunately, that information can be exposed easily to others and this totally ruins your personal privacy. Most of modern applications are being granted access to your personal data, (like location, contacts, social network accounts) just in order to provide you a better user experience. Fine! But who can guarantee you that every information read, will be kept secret and never get exposed. Keep in mind that if most of the applications communicate with a server, which belongs to its owners. Therefore, they may be able to view your personal information. This could let them illegally distribute it, share it or sell it. This would set your personal privacy non existent. Furthermore, such kind of information may be used to guide your opinion(promotion, advertisements). For instance, cookies, caches and history may be used from the App Store in order to serve you better applications. This is not a totally fair way of convincing you, is it?
Other Thoughts regarding your personal privacy:
What would happen if your device fallen into the wrong guy’s hands? Smart-phones are prone to being lost and stolen. In addition, they could exploit your personal data. For example, it could be used as a second identity. Maybe publicity expose it or exploit them in many other ways(e.g personal life impersonation). This seems kinda rare to happen, but you never know.
In conclusion, I would like to state that smart-phones are there to help us. Make our lives easier. Promote evolution and provide critical assistance in some cases. That doesn’t mean though, that you should be storing everything in your device un-encrypted, unprotected and available to everyone. Using mobile phones wisely is critical to protecting your personal privacy!
